Hey. Remember me?! I can't believe it's been over three months since I've posted last. I could think of a slew of excuses on why I've been inactive on my blog: busy season at work,  holiday craziness, getting sick, having a badly sprained ankle for 5+ weeks (although this is actually an argument against my point since this resulted in lots of downtime on the couch), and honestly just being plain ol' lazy sometimes. OH.. and because I've been busy celebrating because I got engaged (more posts to come)!

Truthfully, I feel guilty that I haven't been posting. I miss writing and creating content but I've been in an unmotivated slump. I felt like no one cared or wanted to read what I have to say, which honestly still may be true (lol)  but this made me take some time to think about why I started a blog in the first place. It's a creative space and outlet for me to share whatever I want whenever I want. I'm not doing it for anyone other than myself. I love writing, taking pictures, creating fun Instagram posts, and messing around with HTML and graphics (s/o to the Myspace days - real ones know).
Even still, it does feel really good to have someone compliment my page or my posts. A little goes a long way- a simple text, comment, or even 'like' on an Instagram post can be a huge boost of motivation for me. Ever since I started my blog I've been extra conscious about always trying to go out of my way to spread a little extra love and kindness for people putting themselves out there, whether it be starting a blog, a business, new hobby, etc. It's not easy putting yourself out there on the internet!!

Mixing unmotivation with occasional insecurity and you have a real recipe for disaster. Sometimes the insecurity is worrying about what people will say or think about a post or my blog in general. Other times the insecurity is hating how I look and feeling gross and ugly and not wanting to take pictures for blog posts, which is a pretty big part in creating posts.

I've been taking to the time to actively realign and surround myself with avenues that inspire me the most. I frequently turn to Pinterest for some initial inspiration and then listen to a few podcasts, watch some Youtube, and read some blog posts. It's so important to follow people that inspire you - not make you feel inferior. I'll be making more of an effort to focus on this in 2020.

These days it feels like everyone has a blog and there's quite literally hundreds of thousands of 'influencers' to follow, which I think is another factor that goes into feeling unmotivated, insecure, and unimportant. It's so easy to fall into a nasty habit of comparing yourself to other people you see online. It can feel like an extremely 'over-saturated' industry but one of my favorite bloggers and podcast hosts, Lauryn Bosstick-Evarts of The Skinny Confidential made a really good point in one of her podcast episodes: it's NOT over-saturated since there's only one of YOU. Yes, there are a lot of bloggers out there but you need to find your niche which separates you from the rest. If you Google 'types of blogs', the results are almost infinite. I by no means categorize myself as a fashion or beauty blogger. I'm definitely not a fitness blogger. I'm not a travel blogger or food blogger either.

I'm just me. A pretty average and basic twenty something year old. I've grown up very privileged and have, luckily, never faced much hardship in my life. At the same time, I do have my struggles I'd one day like to share.  I'm just me. I'd like to think I'm pretty funny, clever, and creative. Oversensitive at times. Extremely stubborn. Sarcastic and witty. I may not be the most fashionable gal in the world but I love to shop and can always find a good sale. I can be messy and unorganized and usually leave my clothes on the floor (working on this in 2020), but I love interior design and can spend an obscene amount in Home Goods every time I walk in.

While I've been constantly jotting down notes in my phone of ideas for blog posts, I would love to know if anyone has any ideas or requests of posts you want to see in 2020 😍 My goal is to post consistently this year and I never want to go so long without posting.

If you made it through the end of my rambles - thank you and I appreciate you!
Cheers to 2020. I think it's gonna be a good one 💞

  2. Yesss Myspace days haha. Love what you said about how it feels like everyone has a blog these days, so it can make you feel irrelevant and unmotivated because I totally understand. But yes girl, I love that we've been blogging for years and following each other and that we stay true to us and create what makes us happy for nobody else but ourselves! Keep doing you, can't wait to see what's coming in 2020 and hearing more about the engagement YAY :)
