BEST OF 2017

I know we're already a couple of weeks into 2018 but I'm wishing you a HAPPY (belated) NEW YEAR!! Over the past couple of weeks I've taken some time to reflect on 2017. I love going through the pictures on my phone starting from January and scrolling through to see all the fun memories I've had and places I've been to really get an idea of what 2017 was a like for me. Check out some of my highlights of 2017 below including some resolutions I have for this new year!

  • I left a comfortable, but good, job that I did not find fulfilling and challenging. I stepped out of my comfort zone and applied for a job that I didn't think I was qualified for...And I got it!! I'll admit that a glass of wine one night gave me the liquid confidence I needed to submit my resume and I heard back the very next day! Within a month of that night I quit a job for the first time (TBH, I cried), booked a last minute trip to Florida to celebrate, and started a brand new job. This was my greatest accomplishment of 2017. I am so happy in my new position and I'm also really happy I decided to just go for it.

"Great things never come from comfort zones."

  • I bought my first car - and it felt GOOD! It's funny because I have an email in my inbox to my mom saying: "Jeep Renegade in 6 months??" and her response was "No, too expensive" and guess what car I am driving now... 😂 So the car I was driving prior (given to me by my dad) went to my sister who was getting her permit so it was time for me to get a new car. The car buying process was a b#$%^ but I am SO lucky that I had Matt and his dad go with me to negotiate some prices. After a couple visits and several hours of negotiating, we finally got to point that was affordable for me and I am so in love with my car! I feel so lucky to be able to make this purchase - #adulting.

"Be obsessively grateful."

  • I moved in with Matt - into my dream apartment in the city. This is something we've talked about for a while and at the end of my 3 years at my old apartment we took the plunge and moved in together 😉 Honestly, I was so ready! I'll have a post all about that coming soon. It was quite a process to stay the least with struggles along the way but we are finally all settled and I couldn't be happier. I traded a 10 minute commute for a 50 minute commute but I am so much happier being in the city. An apartment tour is coming soon!

This furniture was moved around, don't worry! 🙈

  • I started journaling. I think writing is a therapy for most people who have a blog and that is no different for me. It's a hobby I enjoy and love. The only thing is that my blog is public to the world. Earlier this year, I started writing in a journal. It's nothing crazy or serious (and TBH, I have not written in a few months with moving and all that) but it's a good therapeutic outlet for me. I'll write down blog post ideas, things that make me happy, quotes that I like, etc. I highly recommend starting a journal!

"Don't forget to love yourself first"

  • I did some evaluating on friendships. My outlook on friendships: make new, keep the old, and abandon the ones that don't make you better. This one was probably the toughest one for me to write about so I'll keep it short and sweet. I realized that quality is better than quantity and sometimes it's better to just let some friendships fizzle out. If your friends don't support you in good and bad times, congratulate you on important milestones, and make an effort to have you in your lives then why should I reciprocate? Sometimes you just lose touch with people and it's something I've had to come to terms with. At the same time, this has allowed me to focus in on the friendships that really matter - the friends that have always been there. Cutting some old ties has also allowed me to make some new and GREAT friendships.

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart"

  • I started this blog! Like, really started it. If you go back to my old posts you will see I had a few posts  dating back several years ago, but there were very few and I didn't tell anyone about it. In 2017, I decided to go for it - posting about Champagne Tuesdays on all my social media platforms. I'm not going to lie - I was really nervous to see how people would respond, if they would think its stupid, etc. Lucky for me, I have amazing and supportive friends and family who are always in my corner. Since I know the feelings I experienced after going public with this blog, I don't hesitate to reach out to people (even random people I don't know) to tell them that I love whatever they're doing - whether it's a blog, Etsy shop, or any other hobby because I know one small compliment goes a LONG way. Why not? It costs nothing to be kind. Whenever I receive any messages saying that someone likes my blog it makes my day! In the short time I've been blogging I've had the opportunity to work with some cool brands, discovered so many new blogs I love to follow, and even made some 'blogging friends'.

  • I had the opportunity to do some traveling this year.  This included several trips to Door County, a couple trips to my college town Iowa City (always a good time), Kansas (to visit my family), as well as South Carolina, Portland, and Florida. I didn't used to like to travel. In fact, my family would take trips to Europe quite frequently when I was little and I never appreciated it but over recent years I got bit by the travel bug and I have so many places on my bucket list. I hope 2018 brings me more adventures to places I've never been before. I already have a cruise booked in March!

"I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list"

Overall: a lot of adulting, growing, and stepping out of my comfort zone and a LOT of fun memories.
Cheers to continued growth in 2018!
